Our Story

CHEF MAO opened its doors in Semarang in January 2025, with a passionate mission to bring the authentic flavors of Sichuan to Central Java. Founded by a team of culinary enthusiasts who fell in love with the bold, numbing-spicy taste of mala, our restaurant is dedicated to delivering an genuine Sichuan dining experience — from the fiery hotpot broth to the aromatic maocai and perfectly grilled shaokao skewers.

Our restaurant features an elegant interior designed for comfort and style, with a state-of-the-art smokeless dining area that lets you enjoy hotpot without the smoke. The second floor offers exclusive private rooms perfect for family gatherings, business dinners, or special celebrations. We also provide board games for guests to enjoy, making CHEF MAO not just a meal, but a complete dining and social experience.
